Character Name: Alicia (Alice) von Isenbell
Character Race: Human
Character Age: 19
Character Backstory:
This was not what she wanted… Alice, age 19, leaves her home, a desolate house out in the middle of nowhere, a house that once was her bastion of peace and tranquility. Now it stands only as a reminder of bad memories.
The name Isenbell was not unheard of in the kingdom. Isenbell was the name of a famed wizard who served at the king’s side and loyal did the king’s work. However, the man known as Charles von Isenbell left the kingdom one day. He left with his newborn and his wife and went to a remote place with no cities or towns closeby. He lived off the land and raised his daughter with his wife happily.
Years had passed since that day. Alice had grown up to be a wonderful young teenager. She studied magic from her father after pestering him numerous times. However, despite his efforts, Alice did not seem to know how to use magic or rather she couldn’t. She couldn’t learn any basic basic spells nor could she learn anything else her father tried to teach. Was this karma delivering swift punishment onto him? He thought. A famed mage named Charles von Isenbell has a daughter that cannot use magic? Impossible… It was an embarrassment to him and he felt sorry for his daughter but his daughter never stopped studying. Even through all the disappointment of not being able to learn anything, she kept trying.
After a few years with nothing changing, Alice finally came across other books that her father kept hidden away. Elemental magic… Her father didn’t forbid her but said that magic was not for someone like her to know. No… he couldn’t allow his daughter to learn destructive magic. However, Alice could not resist that calling of the book that beckoned her or rather her thirst for knowledge made her want to read it. She opened the first book, water magic and began to read it. As she did the words flowed into her brain. After reading the book she was able to do it. It wasn’t even a question if she was able to or not… She was able to cast water spells.
Her father despite a bit upset that she was able to learn destructive magic became accepting of it after seeing her daughter use it. Due to her vast knowledge of magic itself due to her studying and her creative mind, she was able to use water magic at a level unlike novices. Her father continued her training to increase her natural mana and she continued to study books in her father’s study on different magics. When she tried to read the other books on destructive elemental magic, her father refused. He didn’t want her to learn more than she had. Her gifts to only learn destructive or combat magic was unfortunate but her father was pleased nevertheless.
By the age of 19, she became a proficient magic user. Her father knew that it would be selfish to keep her away from the city but he did not want her to go to such a place. He didn’t want her to meet the king. He selfishly didn’t ask her if she wanted to leave but she never insisted on leaving either. She felt obligated to stay with her father, her teacher and she felt more so on the passing of her mother. He would be lonely without her… she thought.
One day, as she was walking around the forest, she met a wounded man. Having not seen any person really besides her father and mother she informed her father. They brought him back to the house and nursed him back to health. That night he slept in the spare room. As he awoke he told many fantastic tales of different places he been to. He also informed that the king had died. Her father was shocked to hear such news. The man was young but didn’t seem like a lying sort. The man was kind and Alice was quite happy to be around him. She took care of him while his wounds were healing and conversed with him hearing many tales of the world outside this forest.
It was too good to be true though. One night the man awoke and took out a hunting knife. This was no coincidence… This man was not in this forest because he was traveling. Alice’s father knew this very well from the moment he saw the man. The man was a killer, he was waiting for the opportunity. Alice’s Father woke her from her sleep and told her to hide quickly. It wasn’t long before the man came into the room. Alice’s father did what he could but age is a problem for magic users and Alice’s father wasn’t as agile as he was before. Within moments, Alice’s father died in front of her. She could not believe it. That kind man killed her father. She saw the man point his knife towards her now. She would be killed. She jumped out the window nearby and began to run. She did not look back but she knew that his presence was getting closer.
It was a dead end. After running for a few minutes she forgot that she was running towards a large river nearby. She didn’t know how to swim… after all these years… the fact that she knows water magic… ironically she didn’t know how to swim. She laughed at her misfortune. The man caught up. His knife was stained with the blood of her father. How unfortunate… she could not get revenge and she would be killed by the man who killed her father moments before… the man who shared stories of the outside world… the man that she began to like. She closed her eyes knowing her fate. She would be stabbed. She would be killed and that man would accomplish his assassination.
The man moved forward, his mind filled with perverted thoughts mixed with sadistic pleasure. He was not going to be quick with her. She was no threat like her father. The girl had no threatening aura even now. He would take his time to kill her. He moved his dagger and thrusted it into her arm. The sensation burned. She felt the knife dig in and begin to burry itself into her flesh. She gasped of course but what followed wasn’t what either of them thought it would be.
It was a trigger… like a switch being flipped the girl felt something inside her click the moment the dagger pierced her arm. Knowledge… memories… thoughts… everything flowed into her. Her eyes opened. She glared at the man now not with a stare of submission but a stare of pure aggression. The man let go of the dagger and backed up. He felt the stare and was clearly intimidated by it. This was not the girl he saw before. It was like staring into the eyes of a person who had gone through countless amounts of bloodshed and pain… the eyes of a person who did not even care about who they killed or why they had to. She took out the knife from her arm and held it in her left hand. Her right arm bled from the sudden withdrawal of the knife. She began to chant a spell. Behind her the river moved to her will. It crept slowly behind her and towards the man in front of her. The battle had changed. The man was no longer fighting a defenseless girl but a trained mage with the conviction to kill. He began to retreat but the water was already around him, circling and preventing a withdrawal. Alice moved closer with the knife in hand. The water that surrounded the man had now sped up. It was going too fast now like a whirlpool it made the man loose his balance and he fell down. The man tried to get up but the current kept him pinned down. As he struggled he failed to realize where Alice was and within seconds the knife jabbed itself into the man’s chest repeatedly. The water splashing against his body and the repeated stab wounds caused him to lose blood fast. The water had died down all that remained was a bloody corpse and a girl crying.
The next day she buried her father next to her mother’s grave and then took some supplies from the house. The memories that flowed into her, all those thoughts she had yesterday had gone away. She could not remember them nor the feelings of pain and suffering but she knew they were still in her subconscious. Perhaps a parting gift her father gave her by mistake. She took a match and burned the house to the ground. Perhaps they were after one of father’s books… she thought. She already retained most of the knowledge from her father’s books so they were useless now… just bad memories if she saw them. She set off to find a new place to live… she could not stay here any longer.
Character Magic: Water Magic
Character Personality: Alice is a bit of a closet girl. She is not shy so much as she is not trusting of others. She keeps to herself and enjoys studying and perfecting her art. She has been known to be nice to others but only to gain some knowledge or supplies. Despite her antisocial attitude she would like to find someone she can trust. She’s been alone for so long and due to her past she comes out cold to people who are friendly to her. She tends to dislike the thought of killing but changes her mind in reaction to someone threatening her life. She does not like to talk about her past and will ignore you if you continue to ask. She does not seem to like to talk about the war nor does she wish to participate in it. She rather just keep to herself.
